Depth Charts ¦ Offseason Review (Coming Soon!)

2012 Selections

1.7 S - Mark Barron Alabama
So Tampa had a chance to get Morris Claiborne, but traded and got an extra 4th to select Mark Barron at #7? Barron is by far the best Safety, but passing on a blue chip CB for a Safety who isn’t that strong in the passing game moves this grade down a bit.
1.31 RB – Doug Martin Boise St.
Like this pick alot. Martin is a 3-down back, who can catch and pass protect. Tampa needed a consistent RB and traded up to get one, and din’t have to break the bank to do it.

2.26 OLB Lavonte David,Nebraska

  • This is a great pick. Tampa needed help at OLB and David provides great speed and athleticism and can play all 3 downs. Great value here late in the 2nd.

5.5  LB Najee Goode,West Virginia

  • Goode will provide depth, but they already took Lavonte David and Goode is a liability in pass coverage and a slight reach here.

6.4 CB Keith Tandy,West Virginia

  • Tandy’s value lies here in the 6th round and gives the Bucs depth which is needed. Good overall choice

7.5 RB Michael Smith,Utah St

  • Smith is an underrated RB who was behind Robert Turbin at Utah St. Smith should make the team and could end up as the #2 RB when it’s all said and done

7.26 TE/FB Drake Dunsmore,Northwestern

  • Dunsmore is a versatile TE,H-back type. Will be able to line up all over the field for the Bucs

The Bucs seem to have their D-line set for year. Now, the must focus on the back 7. They need to find someone at OLB who can get to the passer and athletic enough to be a difference maker in pass defense. Another area of concern is CB. Talib(off-field) and Barber(age) could both be gone at any given moment. This is an area of immediate upgrade. Look for Tampa to find a quick, change of pace back to complement Blount. I also think they need a veteran WR to come in and give Josh Freeman a reliable target.
