Depth Charts ¦ Offseason Review (Coming Soon!)
2012 Selections
2.23 C Peter Konz,Wisconsin,![]()
- This was the Falcons first pick, and they made the most of it. They had to come away with some OL help and get it with a 1st round talent. Konz is the best C in this class, but will start right away at Guard. Great pick
3.28 OT Lamar Holmes,So. Mississippi,![]()
- Holmes brings length and toughness to the Falcons who need help on the O line, but I think this is several round early for Holmes.
5.22 FB Bradie Ewing,Wisconsin![]()
- I though that Atlanta had much bigger needs than a FB, not to mention, Ewing doesn’t provide any great value in the 5th round.
5.29 LB Jonathan Massaquoi,Troy![]()
- I like Massaquoi alot in the 5th round. He’s a great overall athlete, but I thought he was a better fit in the 3-4. He will most likely play DE for Atlanta and will have to show coaches he can play with his hand in the dirt in the NFL.
6.22 S Charles Mitchell,Mississippi St.![]()
- I had Mitchell mocked to the Falcons several times during this process. Falcons need some more numbers at the Safety position, and Mitchell can contribute on Special teams.
7.42 DT Travian Robertson,South Carolina![]()
- At worst, Robertson can push Peria Jerry and Vance Walker for playing time as top DT off the bench.
Overall Draft Grade
Needs |
|
| Pos. | |
|---|---|
| OT | |
| CB | Franchised Brent Grimes; Acquired Asante Samuel |
| DE | Re-Signed Kroy Biermann |
| S | Re-Signed Thomas DeCoud |
| TE | Re-Signed Tony Gonzalez |
(Other Potential Needs: C,RB,LB Depth)
If the Falcons want to take the next step in the playoffs, they must find a replacement for Sam Baker at LT. Also, look for them to upgrade at CB since Dunta Robinson hasn’t been a good player in this league for a few years. Depth and youth at DE should be addressed as well. Current starters at S Thomas DeCoud and James Sanders are both FA after this season so the Falcons will have question to answer there, and a successor for the aging Tony Gonzalez at TE will need to be found.
- Signed ILB Lofa Tatupu
- Tendered DT Vance Walker
- Re-sign WR Harry Douglas
- Re-sign QB Chris Redman
- Re-signed C Todd McClure
